25 March, windy
I was turned down today. The wording was polite; the conclusion was blunt: no.
My first reaction was to doubt myself, my second was relief — at least there was a clear answer, and nothing left hanging. A refusal is only a conclusion: not this time. It does not say not next time, and it certainly does not say that I am no good.
Being refused costs far less than never daring to ask. Whoever asks learns where the boundary is; whoever stays silent cannot even see it.
A refusal is information, not a verdict.
Note the conclusion, then go on to the next thing.
