27 March, night
The lamp is on; unfinished things are spread across the desk. There have been many nights like this.
One thing I keep telling myself: staying up late is not praiseworthy in itself. It is good that the world goes quiet at night — but if I spent the day putting things off, then what I burn at midnight is the day’s debt.
Every minute ground out at night is not wasted — but hours taken at night are borrowed from tomorrow, while hours earned in daylight are truly yours. The same two hours are called efficiency in the morning and overdraft after midnight.
The light at midnight is beautiful — better if it falls on devotion rather than procrastination.
Sleep early tonight.
